Octanorm beats beMatrix and Aluvision when a stand is more than one job. beMatrix is excellent as long as the task is a textile-graphic wall on rental, Aluvision shines on a seamless LED video wall. But when you need the wall, the light frame, the counter, the ceiling, the double-deck and even a cleanroom from one system, the two Belgian systems stop at their core while Octanorm keeps going.

The reason is the nature of the system. Octanorm is an open standard with more than 90 profiles on one shared 4 mm groove, not a single-brand closed ecosystem, and you get it from an authorised regional partner as a purchase, a rental or a turnkey build. At first glance all three look alike: aluminium frames, graphics without visible screws, fast assembly. beMatrix established the modern toolless frame on a 62 mm grid in 1993, Aluvision builds on a 55 mm profile with integrated hook-and-loop and LED tiles. Both are good, and both are proprietary: you buy their frame, their tiles and their ecosystem.

Octanorm reaches wider. The maxima profiles come in three structural depths, 40, 80 and 120 mm, all on the same 4 mm groove, with more than 90 profiles and walls up to 6 m high with added reinforcement. You size the frame to the load, from a light wall to a portal, and it all stays in one compatible family. With the competitors the frame is a single grid; with Octanorm it is a construction system.

The biggest difference is not visible in a photo of the stand, it shows up at the third and fifth fair. beMatrix and Aluvision are single-brand systems: the frames, the connections and the LED are theirs and compatible only inside their world. Octanorm is an open industry standard that has existed since 1969, with the widest range of components on the market.

In practice that means two things. First, LED: into an 80 mm Octanorm wall you can fit screens from different manufacturers, you are not tied to one brand's tiles at its price. From one compatible family Octanorm covers the wall with maxima 40, 80 and 120 profiles, octalumina light frames, counters, ceiling structures, octamax double-deck structures and modular cleanrooms for pharma, electronics and food. beMatrix and Aluvision cover walls, furniture, LED and double-deck stands, but neither carries cleanrooms in its range.

For a client this is not a detail. Anyone who, besides the stand, also needs a modular cleanroom or a ceiling over the exhibition space gets it all from one system and one supplier, without mixing incompatible ecosystems. When a project grows from a flat wall into a portal with a lit sign and an upper floor, you stay inside Octanorm.

Octanorm is built on the maxima profile in three depths: maxima 40 with a 40 x 40 mm cross-section, maxima 80 at 80 x 80 mm and maxima 120 at 120 x 120 mm. Compared at five metres they weigh about 5.6, 11 and 19.8 kg, and those figures come from the technical datasheet, not a marketing flyer.

The system dates to 1969 and has survived decades of stand builds worldwide, which means proven geometry and available parts.
