An open system pays off when a stand is more than one job. The first fair may be just a flat wall with graphics. By the third you also need a lit portal, a counter and a ceiling; by the fifth a double-deck structure or even a cleanroom. A closed single-brand system stops at its core; that is when you start mixing incompatible ecosystems or buying anew. Octanorm stays one system from the first wall to the top floor.

The reason is the nature of the system. Octanorm is an open industry standard with more than 90 profiles on one shared 4 mm groove. You assemble what you need from the same compatible family, and you get it from an authorised regional partner, not through a rental centre at the other end of Europe.

And if you exhibit only once, renting is cheapest and the matter is settled. But when fairs repeat and the stand grows, the investment in an open standard comes back: the same profiles go to the next fair, you change only the graphics and buy only what is new.

At first glance modern frame systems look the same: aluminium frames, graphics without visible screws, fast assembly. The difference is what sits behind the frame. beMatrix has made the original big-hole frame since 1993, and its b62 generation works on a perfect 62 x 62 mm grid with 31 mm holes. Aluvision has the Omni-55, a 55 mm deep frame with 30 mm holes on a 62 mm grid, integrated Velcro for panels and a 15 mm silicone tendon for fabric. Both are excellent, and both are one grid inside one brand's ecosystem: you buy their frames, their infills and their parts.

Octanorm reaches wider. The maxima profiles come in three structural depths, maxima 40 (40 x 40 mm), maxima 80 (80 x 80 mm) and maxima 120 (120 x 120 mm), all on the same 4 mm groove. You size the frame to the load, from a light partition wall to a load-bearing portal, and it all stays in one family. At five metres these profiles weigh about 5.6, 11 and 19.8 kg respectively, and the figures come from the technical datasheet, not a flyer. Here the frame is not a grid but a construction system.

These two get compared with each other more often than with us, so here is the honest read. beMatrix frames are welded rather than glued, so they need no steel brackets in the corners, the profiles are about 78.5 % recycled aluminium, and a b62 frame is rated for up to 200 uses. That is what makes beMatrix the workhorse of large rental fleets: graphic walls, fast, again and again.

Aluvision's strength is light. The Hi-LED 55 tile measures 496 x 496 x 55 mm, matched exactly to the depth of the Omni-55 frame, so a video wall sits inside the structure instead of hanging in front of it. If the LED wall is the stand, that is hard to beat.

In short: beMatrix if you rent graphic walls at scale, Aluvision when the screen is the message. Every figure above comes from the two manufacturers' own published specifications, not from us. Octanorm has been an open standard since 1969, and MAXIMA profiles measure 40, 80 and 120 mm. Both are industrial profile systems with decades behind them; the question is not which one is serious.

The difference you feel in this region is supply. A profile system pays off when, three years later, you get the same profile, connector or spare part and fit it to what you already own. So between two systems of the same kind, ask who guarantees parts, assembly and deadlines in your country, not only who has the nicer catalogue.

The biggest difference is not visible in a photo of the stand. It shows up at the third and fifth fair, when you need a spare part or an extension. In a closed system the frames, connections and LED are tied to one brand and work only inside its world; for every further part and every price you depend on it.

Octanorm has been the standard for half a century, so it has stock, spare parts and compatible profiles that will still be here in ten years.
