Octanorm Adria

open modular exhibition stand system.

You choose a stand system once and then work with it for years. So the decision is not aesthetic but long-term: you buy the closed world of one brand, its frame, its panels and its parts at its prices, or an open standard that grows with you. Octanorm is an open German system dating to 1969: it builds a whole stand from one family of profiles, publishes a datasheet for each part and, in the Adria region, comes from a local partner as a purchase, a rental or a turnkey build. Below we explain when that decision pays off most and what it means in practice.

in short: when an open system pays off most

An open system pays off when a stand is more than one job. The first fair may be just a flat wall with graphics. By the third you also need a lit portal, a counter and a ceiling; by the fifth a double-deck structure or even a cleanroom. A closed single-brand system stops at its core; that is when you start mixing incompatible ecosystems or buying anew. Octanorm stays one system from the first wall to the top floor.

The reason is the nature of the system. Octanorm is an open industry standard with more than 90 profiles on one shared 4 mm groove. You assemble what you need from the same compatible family, and you get it from an authorised regional partner, not through a rental centre at the other end of Europe.

And if you exhibit only once, renting is cheapest and the matter is settled. But when fairs repeat and the stand grows, the investment in an open standard comes back: the same profiles go to the next fair, you change only the graphics and buy only what is new.

all frame systems look alike, but a frame is not just a frame

At first glance modern frame systems look the same: aluminium frames, graphics without visible screws, fast assembly. The difference is what sits behind the frame. A closed system gives you one grid and one ecosystem, tied to a single brand.

Octanorm reaches wider. The maxima profiles come in three structural depths, maxima 40 (40 x 40 mm), maxima 80 (80 x 80 mm) and maxima 120 (120 x 120 mm), all on the same 4 mm groove. You size the frame to the load, from a light partition wall to a load-bearing portal, and it all stays in one family. At five metres these profiles weigh about 5.6, 11 and 19.8 kg respectively, and the figures come from the technical datasheet, not a flyer. Here the frame is not a grid but a construction system.

an open standard, or lock-in to one brand

The biggest difference is not visible in a photo of the stand. It shows up at the third and fifth fair, when you need a spare part or an extension. In a closed system the frames, connections and LED are tied to one brand and work only inside its world; for every further part and every price you depend on it.

Octanorm has been the standard for half a century, so it has stock, spare parts and compatible profiles that will still be here in ten years. It shows in the LED too: into an 80 mm wall you fit screens from different manufacturers and are not tied to one brand's tiles at its price. Openness is not a marketing term but your bargaining power at every next purchase.

one system from wall to cleanroom

From one compatible family Octanorm covers the wall with maxima profiles, octalumina light frames, counters, ceiling structures, octamax double-deck structures and modular cleanrooms for pharma, electronics and food. A modular cleanroom is something that stand-frame systems as a rule do not carry at all.

For a client this is not a detail but one supplier instead of three. Anyone who, besides the stand, also needs a cleanroom or a ceiling over the exhibition space gets it all from one system, without reconciling incompatible ecosystems. When a project grows from a flat wall into a portal with a lit sign and an upper floor, you stay inside Octanorm; the octauniversal connecting system exists precisely to join the different Octanorm families into one whole.

published specs, not marketing promises

Octanorm is built on the maxima profile in three depths, with cross-sections of 40 x 40, 80 x 80 and 120 x 120 mm. These are not round numbers from a brochure but data from the technical datasheets we design to. Where a tall wall or a portal needs a load calculation, we prepare it for your specific project.

The system dates to 1969 and has decades of stand builds worldwide behind it. That means proven geometry, available parts and designers who know the system inside out. Before you decide on any system, ask for the technical datasheet: if you get it, you know what you are buying. We would rather give you a figure that holds than a promise that collapses a week before the fair.

buy, rent or build with a local partner

Octanorm Adria is the authorised distributor for Slovenia and the former Yugoslavia. That means one responsible contact for purchase, rental and turnkey build, in your language and time zone, not a call centre abroad. For a single appearance a rental makes sense, for regular fairs buying your own system, for a demanding project a turnkey build, and you do not have to decide in advance, because the same team runs all three.

The difference shows under pressure. A plan change a week before the fair, an extra counter or an on-site repair are solved in hours, not days, with a local partner. And you can buy Octanorm as your own reusable system, not only rent it: the aluminium is fully recyclable, the same profiles go to the next fair, you change only the graphics. Send us the floor plan and your wishes, and we propose a concrete combination and a clear price.

frequently asked questions

Because an open standard is not tied to one brand. From one compatible family with more than 90 profiles Octanorm covers the whole stand, from the wall to the cleanroom, accepts LED from different manufacturers and comes from a local partner as a purchase, rental or turnkey build. With a closed system you are tied to one brand for every part and every price.

Not directly, because frame geometry differs between systems and the systems themselves are usually closed. Inside Octanorm, the octauniversal connecting system joins the different Octanorm families into one whole. The cleanest and cheapest path is one system across the entire stand.

Yes. The octamax structure is made for double-deck stands, adding an upper floor for meetings or a view over the hall. We calculate the load for the specific layout in advance.

It depends on use. For a single fair renting is cheapest, while for regular appearances buying your own reusable system pays off. Because Octanorm is an open standard, in the long run you are not tied to one brand's part prices. Send the floor plan and we will prepare a proposal for your case.

Yes. Octanorm Adria covers all three paths with one partner: buying the system, renting equipment for a single fair and a turnkey stand build, with no need to coordinate several suppliers.

A floor plan of the space or its dimensions, the date and place of the fair, and a rough idea of what you need: a wall with graphics, a counter, a lit portal, an upper floor or a cleanroom. On that basis we propose a concrete combination, tell you whether buying or renting pays off better, and prepare a price.
